WHAT YOUR SKIN IS CRAVING

Updated: Feb 13, 2020

Your makeup will never be a 10 is your skincare is a 2!

A great skincare regimen from Farmasi or another reputable outlet is necessary and your skin will thank you for it!

Are you unhappy with your skin? Is your face oily or too dry? It seems to be a more common problem than people realize and most of it can be solved with a simple skincare routine.

Your Skin Type

The first thing to determine is your skin type.

The right routine starts with knowing what kind of skin you have. Then you'll know how to take care of it.

  • Dry skin is flaky, scaly, or rough.

  • Combination skin is dry in some spots (cheeks) and oily in others (forehead, nose, and chin).

  • Sensitive skin may sting, burn, or itch after you use some makeup or other products.

  • Normal skin is balanced, clear, and not sensitive.

Think of your skin-care routine as consisting of three main steps:

  1. CleansingWashing your face.

  2. ToningBalancing the skin.

  3. Moisturizing — Hydrating and softening the skin.

It's Like Tuning Up A Car

The goal of any skin-care routine is to tune up your complexion so it’s functioning at its best, and also troubleshoot or target any areas you want to work on.

The most important part of any skin care routine is to give it time and be consistent!  You can't expect what has taken months or even years of damage to repair or correct itself overnight.

The most important step of your entire routine is cleansing.  Washing your face twice daily will help to avoid clogged pores, acne and dull skin.

What To Do

  1. Find a cleanser that leaves your face not only feeling clean but not tight feeling or very dry.  A tight or dry feeling is a sign of dehydration not cleanliness.

  2. Stay away from using exfoliating cleansers more than once a week as over exfoliating can do damage to your skin.  Never use exfoliates with walnuts or other harsh abrasives.

For every day cleansing you should look for the following:

Remember that when starting a new skin regimen that your skin may purge!

If you’re using a new product and your skin starts acting out, your skin may be purging. According to celeb dermatologist and author of Beyond Beautiful, Dr. Doris Day “A purge is a reaction from a product. It can be an irritant reaction to a product, leading to piling up of skin cells and their underlying contents. It can be due to an imbalance of water in the skin, an imbalance of the way the cells exfoliate or an imbalance of elements within the skin.”

What that means to you is, it may not be the new product breaking you out, but it is making your skin react – that doesn't always mean to discontinue using the product.

Check with a dermatologist to find out whether your skin is in fact purging or is an allergic reaction to something within the formula.  If it's slight, isn't burning your face, causing it to swell or redden then it very likely could be purge.  Bottom line, it's always best to be safe and call a professional.  If the doctor is in doubt, then throw it out.

Just as each of us has our own unique look, our skin is also very unique and what works for one may not work for you.

A few things to remember when looking for a great skin care routine are listed below.

  • What works for your sister or friend may not work for you.  In other words, never assume that just because something seems popular with many, doesn't always mean it's the best  one for you.

  • Don't be afraid to try cheaper products.  Not everything good for you has to be expensive.  As long as it has the ingredients you need, the name ( popular vs. not so popular ) and price tag do not matter.

  • Sunscreen is always a yes!  Sun damage is not only difficult to correct but, the risk of certain types of skin cancer far outweigh saving the extra minute it takes to apply.  Use an SPF of 30 or higher and a 5 star UVA rating for the best results.

  • Masks are for more than just pampering.  A weekly mask can actually make some of your skin problems a thing of the past like oily skin or blackheads.  A mask also helps exfoliate and keep your skin hydrated.

  • Never believe advertising that offers a quick fix to skincare issues.  It just doesn't work that way and never will. Your skin is the biggest living thing on your body and it's changes and the regeneration of skin cells take time.  No product can rush that process.

Again, not everyone has the same skincare routine and what works for one person may not work for another. Just as my own opinions here may or may not be agreed with by another, however I believe that you'll find that by following this simple & basic routine and pick your products wisely then you'll have fewer skin issues than you ever thought were possible. *winks*
